# Connect PageFly to Claude, ChatGPT or another AI assistant

### Overview

The **PageFly AI assistant connector** lets an AI assistant you already use — Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or any client that supports MCP connectors — work with your PageFly pages directly from its chat. Once connected, you can ask the assistant to list and inspect your pages, search the template library, read your page health and conversion findings, build a new page section by section, rewrite or remove a section that came out wrong, preview it in your live theme, and publish it when you are happy.

The connector uses the open **Model Context Protocol (MCP)**, the same standard Claude and ChatGPT use for their built-in connectors. PageFly is the MCP server; your assistant is the client.

**PageFly is listed in Claude's connector directory**, so on Claude there is nothing to paste and no URL to copy — find PageFly in the directory and click **Connect to Claude**. Other assistants still add it by its connector URL, `https://apps.pagefly.io/mcp`.

{% hint style="info" %}
Everything the assistant does goes through the same checks as the PageFly app: your plan's live-page limit still applies, a page is never published unless you ask, a page is never deleted unless you confirm, and you can disconnect at any time from **PageFly → Preferences → Account**.
{% endhint %}

**Prerequisites:**

* A Shopify store with PageFly installed, on one of the current PageFly plans (Free included). Stores still on PageFly's **legacy pricing** get the basic tools only — see [Which plans support it?](#frequently-asked-questions) below.
* An AI assistant that supports MCP connectors: Claude (web, desktop or Claude Code) on any plan, ChatGPT on a paid plan with Developer mode, or another MCP client.
* Access to that store's Shopify admin — approving the connection happens inside PageFly, in your admin, so only someone who can open the app can connect it.

### What you can ask the assistant to do

* **Look around** — "List my PageFly pages", "What is on my homepage?", "Which pages are published?"
* **Find inspiration** — "Find a template for a skincare landing page", "Show me FAQ section templates"
* **Check performance** — "What did my last Page Checkup find?", "Any broken products or missing images on my pages?", "How are my A/B tests doing?"
* **Build** — "Build a landing page for our new running shoe: hero, three benefits, product box, reviews, FAQ and a closing call to action"
* **Fix and tidy up** — "Rewrite section 2, it is too wordy", "Delete the FAQ section", "Delete that draft page I abandoned last week"
* **Go live** — "Publish that page", "Unpublish the summer sale page"
* **Get help** — "How do I add a countdown timer in PageFly?" (answered from this help center)

### Step-by-step: connect Claude

PageFly is in Claude's connector directory, so you do not need to add it by hand.

1. Open [claude.ai/directory?q=pagefly](https://claude.ai/directory?q=pagefly) and click the **PageFly** result. Inside Claude you can also reach it from **Settings → Connectors → Browse connectors** and search for `PageFly`.
2. Click **Connect to Claude**.
3. A PageFly page opens asking for your **store name**. Type it (for example `my-store` for `my-store.myshopify.com`) and click **Continue**.
4. You are sent into your Shopify admin, where PageFly shows **Connect PageFly to Claude**: what Claude will be able to do (read your pages, build new ones and publish them) and where you will be sent back to. Click **Approve access**.
5. You return to Claude with PageFly connected. Start a new chat and ask it something about your pages.

{% hint style="info" %}
Claude labels PageFly a **Community** connector. That means it is built and maintained by PageFly rather than by Anthropic — it is the normal label for an app's own connector, and nothing is missing from it.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
The approval link expires after **15 minutes**. If you see "This connection request has expired", start again from your assistant.
{% endhint %}

#### Claude Code (terminal)

```
claude mcp add --transport http pagefly https://apps.pagefly.io/mcp
```

Then run `/mcp` inside Claude Code and choose **Authenticate** for PageFly. The same store-name and approve steps follow in your browser.

#### ChatGPT

ChatGPT accepts custom MCP servers only on its paid plans (Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise) and only with **Developer mode** switched on:

1. Open **Settings → Apps → Advanced settings** and turn on **Developer mode**.
2. Add a new MCP server, name it **PageFly** and paste the same connector URL.
3. Follow the store-name and approve steps above.

On the Free plan the Plugins directory only shows apps OpenAI has published, so custom servers cannot be added there. PageFly will appear in that directory once it is listed.

#### Other MCP clients

Any client that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth works the same way: add PageFly's connector URL, `https://apps.pagefly.io/mcp`, then approve the connection in your Shopify admin. You can also copy that URL from **PageFly → Preferences → Account → AI assistant connector**.

### How building a page works

When you ask the assistant to build a page, it:

1. Reads PageFly's page-authoring guide (the same instructions FlyMate uses) so it knows PageFly's elements and layout rules.
2. Creates a new, **unpublished** page in your PageFly page list.
3. Adds sections one at a time, top to bottom — up to **10 sections per page** — using your store's own images from Shopify Files, product photos and PageFly uploads.
4. Sends you a **preview link** after every section. The preview renders the page inside your live theme; you do not need to be logged in to open it.
5. Publishes only when you tell it to. Publishing uses one of your plan's live-page slots; if your store is at its limit the assistant tells you instead of publishing.

The page it creates is a normal PageFly page: open it in the editor to fine-tune anything the assistant got wrong, exactly as you would with a template.

{% hint style="info" %}
Actions taken through the connector do **not** use your PageFly AI credits: your assistant's own model writes the content and PageFly only assembles and renders it. Your plan's live-page allowance still applies when you publish.
{% endhint %}

### Changing a page after it is built

You do not have to start the page over when one section comes out wrong. Sections are numbered from the top, and the assistant sees those numbers — every outline and preview reply lists them as `[section 1]`, `[section 2]` and so on — so you can simply point at one:

* **Rewrite a section** — "Make section 2 shorter and put the button above the image." The assistant writes that section again and swaps it into the same place. Everything else on the page is left exactly as it was.
* **Remove a section** — "Delete the FAQ section." The sections below it move up and are renumbered, so ask for the outline again before deleting a second one.
* **Delete a whole page** — "Delete that draft I abandoned." The assistant has to confirm with you before this goes through.

A rewrite goes through the same checks as building, so anything the assistant is allowed to add, it is allowed to swap in. It can do this on any page in your store, including one you built by hand — though for a one-word or one-colour touch-up the PageFly editor is faster, because the assistant rewrites the whole section around the change.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Deleting a page is permanent — there is no undo and it is not in a trash bin. If the page was published, it comes off your storefront with it. The assistant will always ask you to confirm first, so read the page title in its question before you say yes.
{% endhint %}

### What the connector can do (tools)

Your assistant sees these tools. It picks the right one from your request; you never call them by name. Stores on legacy pricing see only the tools marked **basic**.

| Tool                          | What it does                                                                                                           |

| `unpublish_page` | Remove a page from your storefront (the page is kept) |

See [data, permissions and security](/integrations/ai-assistant-connector/ai-assistant-connector-data-permissions-and-security.md) for exactly what each permission allows and what the assistant can and cannot access.

### Managing connections

Go to **PageFly → Preferences → Account → AI assistant connector**. The card lists every active connection with the assistant's name, its permissions and when it was last used.

* **Disconnect all** revokes every connection immediately. The assistant will ask you to reconnect the next time you use PageFly from it.
* To connect a second assistant, repeat the steps above — from the directory for Claude, with the connector URL for everything else.
* Planning to uninstall PageFly? Click **Disconnect all** first so no assistant keeps a connection to the store.

### Troubleshooting

| You see | What it means |
| --------------------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Different store** banner on the approve screen | The connection was started for another store. Switch to that store in Shopify admin, then approve. |
| "This connection request has expired" | More than 15 minutes passed. Start again from your assistant. |
| "… is not available on this store's plan" | Your store is on PageFly's legacy pricing, which keeps the basic tools only. Moving to a current plan (Free included) unlocks building, editing, media, page health, Page Checkup and A/B data, and publishing. Ask the assistant for your plan status to see the options. |
| "Page authoring over the connector is not enabled for this store yet" | Page building is switched on for every store, so this means PageFly could not confirm it for yours at that moment. Try again in a minute; contact PageFly support if it persists. |
| "This connection was granted read-only access" | Your assistant asked for read access only. Disconnect all, then reconnect and accept the full permissions. |
| The assistant edited or deleted the wrong section | Section numbers shift up as soon as one is deleted. Ask it to show you the page outline again, then name the number from that fresh list. |
| The assistant says a page cannot be published | Your store is at its plan's live-page limit. Unpublish another page or upgrade. |
| The assistant cannot see a page you just created in the editor | Ask it to list pages again — it reads live data on every request, but it may be answering from an earlier reply. |
| You cannot find PageFly in Claude's connector directory | Search from [claude.ai/directory?q=pagefly](https://claude.ai/directory?q=pagefly) rather than from inside a chat. If it still does not show, add it by hand as a custom connector with `https://apps.pagefly.io/mcp` — it is the same connector. |
| ChatGPT has no place to add a custom server | Custom MCP servers need a paid ChatGPT plan with Developer mode on (Settings → Apps → Advanced settings). The Free plan cannot add them. |

### Frequently asked questions

**Does the assistant get access to my Shopify admin?** No. It talks only to PageFly, and only about PageFly pages. It never receives your Shopify access token and cannot read customers, orders or store settings. See [data, permissions and security](/integrations/ai-assistant-connector/ai-assistant-connector-data-permissions-and-security.md).

**Can it edit a page I built in the editor?** Yes. It can read any of your pages, add a section, rewrite a section in place and delete one. What it does not do is nudge a single element — one word, one colour, one image — on its own: it rewrites the whole section around that change. For small touch-ups the PageFly editor, or FlyMate inside it, is quicker.

**Can it delete pages?** Yes, and this one is permanent. The assistant has to confirm the page with you before it deletes, there is no undo, and a published page is taken off your storefront along with it. If you would rather it never deleted anything, tell it so at the start of the chat — and remember you can always delete pages yourself from the PageFly page list.

**Which plans support it?** Every current PageFly plan, including Free, gets the full connector. Publishing follows your plan's live-page allowance. Stores still on PageFly's legacy pricing (a plan bought before the current plans) get the basic tools: listing and inspecting pages, searching templates and the help center, plan status and the upgrade link. On the assistant side, ChatGPT needs a paid plan to add custom connectors; Claude does not.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.pagefly.io/integrations/ai-assistant-connector/connect-pagefly-to-claude-chatgpt-or-another-ai-assistant.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
